91制片厂鈥檚 Noah Perlut elected president of the prestigious ornithological club
Noah Perlut, Ph.D., professor of environmental studies at the University of New England, has been elected president of the Nuttall Ornithological Club, the oldest ornithological organization in the Americas.
Founded in 1873, the was the first group in North America dedicated to the study of birds. Its elective members 鈥 who span generations and represent a broad range of ornithological interests 鈥 convene nine times a year in Cambridge, Massachusetts, for presentations from leading researchers around the world. The club is widely recognized for its published volumes and its Blake Fund, which supports projects that advance ornithological science.
Perlut was first elected to the club in 2013 and previously served as vice president from 2021 to 2023. He was originally nominated by Richard Primack, professor of biology at Boston University.

An ornithologist with expertise spanning ecology, conservation biology, migration, breeding systems, and animal behavior, Perlut鈥檚 research examines . His work ranges from long-term studies of bobolinks and Savannah sparrows in Vermont hayfields to a decade of research on rooftop-nesting herring gulls in Portland.
At 91制片厂, he also leads student-driven research in the Squirrelology Lab, where undergraduates track the movements and behaviors of radio-collared gray squirrels across the University鈥檚 Biddeford Campus.
Perlut鈥檚 contributions to conservation and education have been recognized repeatedly. He received ecomaine鈥檚 2023 eco-Excellence Award and, in 2024, the inaugural BirdSafe Maine Award for Educational Excellence for efforts to protect migrating birds from window strikes on 91制片厂鈥檚 campus.
In recognition of his scholarship and dedication to teaching, Perlut was named the 2020鈥2021 Ludcke Chair of Liberal Arts and Sciences, the highest academic honor in 91制片厂鈥檚 College of Arts and Sciences.
Funded by a generous bequest from the estate of Eleanor Ludcke (Westbrook College Class of 1926), the chair is presented annually to a senior faculty member in the college who has achieved national or international recognition for original scholarship and exemplified excellence in teaching.
